The Simmons Family,09

This past Sunday, I had an appointment to shoot family portraits of the family of a wonderful woman that I work with. Unfortunately, at almost the exact time of the session, it started pouring rain so we re-scheduled for the next afternoon.

Monday we met at Monument Valley Park and started shooting. Debbie's youngest granddaughter was just not going to smile for me! She was even able to resist my infamous duck voice! She really did not want to smile! After we took a few family pictures and some individual family pictures, it started raining yet again!! We tried to wait out the rain under the gazebo in the park, but it just wouldn't let up. We finally decided the weather was just not going to cooperate so we went home, with high hopes that I at least got some good pictures of the family.
Well, I think I got a few good pictures for the family to choose from and I hope they enjoy them. Thanks, David, Debbie and family for weathering the stormy weather with me.

Ryan, Class of 2010

Ryan is my first senior from the Class of 2010! Ryan is a friend of my daughter's and I actually took some photographs of him a couple of years ago when he appeared as "Beast" in the Lewis Palmer High School productions of "Beauty and the Beast". After taking those photographs, I had hoped that he would call me when it was time to get his senior portraits done.

This is just my first session with Ryan. He needed some headshots for an audition he has at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center next week. We just did some studio headshots on this day, and will be taking him outdoors in August to capture some fun and edgy urban shots!
Maybe some day I will watch Ryan accepting an Oscar and he will remember that I took his headshots way back when!! Check back to see his urban shots.

Congratulations Class of 2009!

Congratulations to the Class of 2009! I had the opportunity to take the Senior Class picture for the Class of 2009 at The Classical Academy here in Colorado Springs. I know a lot of these kids..actually I took a lot of their senior pictures... and I know there are a lot of young men and women from this class that will make a difference in our world. I know there a couple of kids that are going to medical school, one that will be attending the United States Air Force Academy, a few that are going to the mission field, one that is going to Bible college (that would be my daughter!) and many others that will be going on to higher education. Good luck, Class of 2009 and my best wishes for a bright future!!

Language Room

At the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, here in Colorado Springs, a great new band out of Austin, TX performed for free. Language Room is an Indie-rock type band that is awesome! They performed for a couple of hours while the cancer victims/survivors and their families and friends walked laps around the track at Liberty High School field. The four guys that make up the group are some of the nicest guys I've ever met. They were willing to play all night if need be or at least until some disgruntled neighbor called the police and said they were being too loud. So, much for charity, huh?!?! Anyway... please go to http://www.languageroom.net/ to check these guys out. You can also purchase their music at iTunes. Thanks, Language Room for being there!

Relay For Life

My cousin, Frank, is a cancer survivor. He is one of the lucky ones. He and his wife, Susann, were the ones that put together one of the annual Relay for Life relays here in Colorado Springs. I had the honor of spending a few hours at the Relay, capturing this special event for the American Cancer Society.

If you are interested in donating to the American Cancer Society, please go to their website a www.cancer.org. Make a difference.

My First Newborn Session...Drew.

I finally got a chance to take portraits of a newborn baby! I sent a message out via Facebook that I was looking for a newborn baby to photograph. Lo, and behold, a young woman that I actually babysat for once or twice contacted me to let me know she had a baby boy due in about 6-9 weeks! Boy, did that make me feel old! (It made me feel even older when she told me she had two older boys!! Eeeeck!)

I anxiously awaited the birth of baby Drew by searching all over the internet for pose ideas and images I wanted to take of Drew. I finally got word on June 1st that the long-awaited precious baby had arrived!! Drew's mommy, Julia, and his daddy, Brian, brought Drew over a week later for his first official photographs. I was very nervous, but very excited. Thankfully, Drew was a dream baby--slept most of the time and only pee-d once!! He was a gorgeous baby and with a beautiful mommy and handsome father, why wouldn't he be?

I was very happy with how they turned out and am now excited to be offering newborn sessions in addition to all the other portrait sessions available. If you are expecting, or have a newborn baby (or any age child for that matter), please contact me as soon as possible so we can schedule a once in a lifetime portrait of your new baby. I also do maternity sessions, so make an appointment for that as well! I prefer to shoot newborn portraits when the baby is between 7 and 14 days, but will work around your schedule. Make that call today!!
