Kevin, Chrissy and Linkon...Urban Family 2009

What can I say about this adorable family?  I met Kevin and Chrissy when we started attending their church last year.  I noticed their adorable baby, Linkon in church one morning and knew that I just had to take his picture!  I took his one year portraits a few months back, and when Chrissy asked me to take family portraits for them, I was thrilled!  They were so fun and so willing to try some new shots I wanted to try.  Linkon did a great job posing, and Kevin and Chrissy were pretty great too!

Nicole and Dave, Engagement Session

This is a special couple to me.  Nicole is my cousin's daughter, and my daughter's best friend.  I have watched Nicole grow from a tiny baby with loads of black hair and gorgeous olive skin, to a beautiful young Christian woman.  I was so happy to hear that she found her "Prince Charming" in Dave.  I actually met him for the first time at this session.  He is a wonderful guy and I wish the best for them!  I can't wait to shoot their wedding in August!

The Coughlin Family, 2009

I love this family and was so excited when mom, Traci, called me to see if I could take her family's picture for Christmas cards this year.  I met Traci and her son, Aaron, this summer when I took Aaron's senior pictures.  Traci is one of those people that you feel like you've known all your life even though you just met her!  She is so sweet and such a great person!

I met the family at Monument Valley Park on a VERY cold Colorado afternoon.  It had just snowed a few days before and the temperature was 19 degrees!   I have to hand it to them, they were real troopers!  I had a coat, hat and fingerless gloves on, and was still freezing!  I figured they'd be wearing their coats, but Traci insisted they not wear them!  This was one of the quickest sessions I've ever done, but only due to the temperatures (my camera batteries froze right after I finished this session!  Even the ones in my pocket were frozen!).   The Coughlins are a lovely family and I think their portraits reflect that!

Johnna, Senior 2010

I thought senior season was over, but got a call from the mom of a senior that attends a boarding school in Michigan.  Sadie asked if I could photograph her daughter, Johnna while she was home for Thanksgiving break.  I was kind of hoping for a snowy setting, but the day arrived and it was a beautiful Colorado afternoon.

Not only was Johnna beautiful, but she is very smart and wants to be a doctor.  I enjoyed meeting Sadie, Johnna and her dad.  I think the portraits turned out beautiful, but how could I go wrong with the subject I was shooting?

Happy New Year, 2010!

Wow...has it been 3 months since I last blogged?!!?! My bad! It's been a busy few months with the holidays, my children dancing in The Nutcracker, and creating wonderful memories of my clients for years to come! I have much to update, but won't try to bore you with the details! Let's just start from scratch...new beginnings...new year...

2010 will be a bittersweet year for me. In my personal life, I will be selling the home that we built and have loved for over 6 years now. This is very difficult for me as I love this house and it has many memories--both good and bad---forever etched into the walls. I wish I didn't have to sell it, but alas, other areas of my life are demanding it! I know that no matter where I go, or where I live, everything will be fine as long as I have my God and my children with me. True happiness does not come from where you live or what your address is. It comes from knowing God and being with family.

In my professional life, I am looking to have a great year. I've always had such wonderful clients and am looking forward to meeting some new people as well as serving those I've worked with before.

I wish you all a wonderful 2010, and please remember me for all of your photographic needs!

9/11...Never Forget....

Eight years ago, my daughters and I were getting ready to head to the dentist's office because my oldest daughter, Ashley was getting her braces on that day. It was really unusual for me to have the TV on in the morning when we were headed out somewhere, but on that particular morning, I turned on The Today Show.

We were watching when Katie and Matt were talking to a lady that had witnessed the first hit on the Trade Center. Everyone thought it was just an accident at that point. I was sitting on the couch, putting on my socks when I looked up and saw the second plane hit. I was in shock and knew at that moment that it was no accident. I couldn't even imagine who would want to take plane loads of human beings and turn them into human bombs. It was beyond my comprehension that anyone could be that evil. I really wanted to cancel Ashley's appointment and just stay glued to the TV but knew I couldn't do that. We listened to the radio the whole way to the dentist's and when we go into his office, they had it playing on the TV and the radio.

Then we heard the news that the Pentagon had been hit and then the news about the courageous passengers on Flight 93 that wouldn't allow those beasts to fly their plane into another target.

At some point we saw the footage of President Bush when Andrew Card whispered into his ear that the United States was under attack. I swear I saw President Bush age 10 years when he heard the news. My heart went out to this man. How would he lead us during this horrifying time? How would he react to the threat? I know many have criticized President Bush for not jumping up and taking action. I'm glad he didn't. I think he took the moment---his last moment of general tranquility---to get his thoughts together. Can you imagine what his thoughts were? The United States was under attack. Thousands of people had been killed. Something inhumane had taken plane loads of people and tried to bring us to our knees. Sit back for a moment and think about what you would have done? I think about what I would have done. I think I would have been praying, and maybe that's what President Bush was doing. Maybe he stopped to ask the Lord for wisdom. Maybe he was asking the Lord to give him the words to say to the people of the United States. Maybe he was asking God to protect anyone else who was in harm's way. Maybe he was asking the Lord to comfort those who had lost loved ones. Who knows?

I hope no one who was alive on September 11, 2001, will ever forget what happened on that day. For one day, we were a country that loved. We were a country that was angry together and not at each other. For one day we loved our family and friends fiercely. For one day, we loved our neighbors and even strangers. For one day, we were united. For one day, we cried for people we had never met. For one day, we stood behind our president, who showed himself as strong, courageous and comforting. For one day there were no Republicans, no Democrats, no Liberals, no Right-Wingers, no Libertarians. For one day we were all Americans. Don't ever forget....
